Research Blog
When it came to my partner and I deciding the proper genre for our two-minute film opening, we wanted to make sure we had a reliable and solid subject. We researched both sci-fi as well as horror. Both genres brought many options to the table. We felt sci-fi brought creativeness and was intriguing. However, it also gave struggles like how hard it would be to create something supernatural and the difficulty of bringing it to screen. As for horror, it is a genre both Sebastian and I felt could bring quality entertainment and grab the audience in an opener. Horror would bring suspense and fear to the short introduction of the film. Bringing these emotions and feelings to the audience is key and that's what makes horror a solid fit for this project.
In class we watched a film opening example from the Movie "Scream". Having prior knowledge to just how captivating this opener is brought confidence to me that I could convey the same thing. I feel like horror can come in many ways and the many ways to bring it to life is the intriguing part. Moving on, my partner and I decided we would do a scene where two teens are being followed on their way home from a party. The use of many camera angles and perspectives will help us bring emotion to our opener.
Ex: The Shinning(1980)
The shinning is a great example to go off of for our horror film opening. It opens up with shots from about showing the location and then goes into further detail. The first few shots of this film do a fantastic job at establish not only the setting or characters, but also what you will be getting out of the movie. Any opener from any movie that can convey the points of a horror film in short time would be considered highly successful by me. This is what my partner and I aim for in ours.
